Communication and soft skills course

Communication and soft skills courseTraining event 2 - Munich - January 27 to february 2 2026

This second training event was organised in Munich at the Technical University of Munich (TUM). This was an opportunity for partners and DCs to get together and also to meet our EU Officer at the Mid-Term Meeting.

The course organised was on communication and soft skills. This combined course, organized by TUM was designed to empower doctoral candidates (DCs) with essential skills for both career development and effective science communication.

The course began by focusing on career planning, grant writing, and job application strategies, helping DCs navigate the European research and innovation landscape. DCs explored career opportunities in academia, industry, and non-university research organizations, while learning to craft compelling applications for grants and jobs.

The second part of the course was a communication and outreach workshop, developed with TUM’s ProLehre Institute. Here, DCs learnt to translate complex research into accessible, engaging content for the public. Through hands-on activities, they developed visual, written, and oral communication skills, culminating in the creation of short outreach videos aimed at high school students. These videos will highlight the key achievements of their projects and be shared on platforms like YouTube, the social media and institutional websites.

By the end of the course, participants did not only have a clear personal career roadmap but also the ability to effectively communicate their research to diverse audiences, bridging the gap between expert knowledge and public engagement.
